Dubai Police seize 622kg of ivory in a month at airport 26/8/2015
Dubai Police seized five separate shipments of ivory last month at Dubai International Airport.
 
According to Al Ittihad newspaper, the shipments weighed 622kg in total and are worth an estimated Dh5 million.
 
Airport security officers discovered the ivory being smuggled by transit passengers coming from African countries and heading to America and Asia.
 
The ivory has been handed in to the Ministry of Environment and Water in accordance with the Federal Law 11 of 2002.
 
Brigadier General Abdullah Hussein Khan, acting director of the General Department of Airport Security, said Dubai Police is committed to the implementation and application of domestic and international policies for the protection of endangered species of flora.
